Summer is here (almost), and with a break in teaching I am back in the darkroom. To help give this ever-expanding project some direction and a few fresh perspectives, I signed up for a day of portfolio reviews at the Griffin Museum for the New England Portfolio Reviews.
It was a fantastic day, with a presentation in the morning by Jennifer Schwartz of Crusade for Art fame, and then four reviews in the afternoon. I got some wonderful insights, mostly into how I am talking about the project as I continue to explore altering the physical nature of the photographic print.
It is wonderfully exciting to have four of my pieces included in the group show, "Fall Back, Spring Forward," curated by Francine Weiss, at the Photographic Resource Center this spring. The exhibition run, April 29 - May 17 coincides with, and is a part of the Flash Forward Festival Boston, which is a phenomenal event each year.
The Photographic Resource Center is featuring my work in their awesome online gallery space, Northeast Exposure Online! The curator, Francine Weiss wrote a lovely statement about my project and you can see the images she selected here.
I have a new teaching position that starts with the Spring term of 2014. I am the new Assistant Professor of Photography at the Community College of Rhode Island. I am really looking forward to having a full time, tenure track position that allows me to teach both digital and chemical photography.
And no, I am not moving. The speedy drive of just about an hour is better than some of my friends' commutes within the city!
I have two pieces included in this year's New England Photography Biennial, held at the Danforth Museum of Art in Framingham, MA. The show was juried by Francine Weiss the curator at the PRC, and will run from Sept. 8 - Nov. 3, 2013.
I am off to CENTER's Review Santa Fe portfolio review event June 6 - 9, 2013 where I will be showing my work from "Concealed at first at last I appear" including my newest pieces where I combine chemigrams with the skiagram process.
I have four pieces in a group show at the StoneCrop Gallery in Maine May 24 - July 8, 2013. The show is of cell phone photography, entitled "Can You Hear Me Now?"
I have two pieces in a group show in Auckland, NZ May 28 - June 1, 2013 as part of the Auckland Festival of Photography. The show is titled Re:Conceptualizing Vision and is curated by Jim Ramer
This piece is in a group exhibition at the Kiernan Gallery March 27 - April 27, 2013
I presented my project "Concealed at first at last I appear" at the SPE National Conference on March 9, 2013 and debuted new work from the series, including the above image.
