sound art
2009-ongoing

Ever since graduate school, I have been interested in the parallels between recorded light and recorded sound. A huge aspect of this is creating sonic translations of my skiagrams as another way to iterate a specific place and time. I've also worked on other types of translation, mostly from text, and I've included some titles and descriptions below to give an overview.

All of my sound projects are now hosted on my Soundcloud page.

Dissolve the World in Ashes, 2020
12 simultaneous requiems
duration: 3:36

Requiem Mass, Dies Irae Movement

Latin:
Dies iræ, dies illa,
Solvet sæclum in favilla:
Teste David cum Sibylla.

Approved Adaptation:
Day of wrath! O day of mourning!
See fulfilled the prophets' warning,
Heaven and earth in ashes burning!

Formal Equivalence:
The day of wrath, that day,
will dissolve the world in ashes:
David being witness along with the Sibyl.

Dear Diary [Into the Void], 2018
Each track of this short EP is created by typing up how I feel in a specific moment. Those words are translated from letters to MIDI notes in real time, and then the words cease to exist. They are not preserved anywhere, and I can never retrieve them. Instead, I take the remaining MIDI notes and build sonic vignettes as a way to redirect how I feel.

Using Twitter as Source Material
As a way to understand and process news and information that I consume via Twitter, I am searching for and collecting tweets around a theme or on a specific date when a level of disconnect resonates for me personally. I will then retype each tweet and record those keystrokes and convert them into MIDI notes. Those notes are then the backbone of my digital compositions.
